How to Care for Your Candle – Tips for Long-Lasting Enjoyment
To get the most out of your candles and ensure they last as long as possible, it's important to take proper care of them. Here are some practical tips to make sure your candle burns optimally and lasts longer:
Let the Candle Burn Long Enough
For the first burn, let your candle burn for at least 2 to 3 hours so the wax melts evenly across the top. This prevents a "well" from forming in the middle of the candle and ensures an even burn.
Trim the Wick
Always trim the wick to about 0.5 cm before lighting the candle. This prevents a large flame, reduces soot, and helps the candle burn evenly. A properly trimmed wick also ensures better fragrance dispersion.
Avoid Drafts
Don't place your candle near a drafty area, such as next to a window or under a fan. This can cause the flame to burn unevenly and make the candle burn faster.
Don’t Let the Candle Burn Too Long
Never let your candle burn for more than 4 hours at a time. This helps prevent the candle from losing too much wax and keeps the jar from deforming. Allow the candle to cool down before re-lighting it.
Don’t Place the Lid Immediately on the Jar
After extinguishing your candle, wait a few minutes before placing the lid on the jar. This prevents the trapped heat and air inside the jar from causing deformation or damaging the lid. Let the jar cool down first, so you can safely seal the candle.
Reuse the Jar
Once your candle has burned down, you can reuse the glass jar for storing herbs, small plants, or even as a storage container for small items. Clean the jar thoroughly, remove any remaining wax, and give it a second life!
